Hillary Clinton

A Strong, Pro-Choice Candidate

A  woman’s right to choose and govern her own body is a fundamental human right.  As representative of District 12, I will fight for freedom of choice for all women and will vigorously oppose any legislation that infringes upon this right.  No exceptions.  No compromises.

As a candidate and a citizen, I support H.R. 771 – Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH Woman) Act of 2017.  This bill requires the federal government to ensure coverage for abortion care in public health insurance programs including Medicare, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (C.H.I.P.).   It further ensures that health plan sponsors provide abortion care coverage for participants and beneficiaries and that abortion care is made available to individuals who are eligible to receive services.  The bill also mandates the federal government may not prohibit, restrict or otherwise inhibit insurance coverage of abortion care by state or local governments or by private health care plans.  State and local governments may not prohibit, restrict, or otherwise inhibit insurance coverage of abortion care by private health plans.

End the Backlog of Rape Kit Processing

Every year, thousands tens of thousands of rape kits go unprocessed by local law enforcement departments.  In some cases, kits go for years without being processed.   Processing rape kits can cost on average between $400.00 – $1,200.00 depending on circumstances.

Denying justice to rape victims due to costs or budget is unacceptable.  As representative of District 12, I would introduce legislation requiring all rape kits to be processed within 15 days.   Oversight and funding of the program would come through the Office of Justice Programs Sexual Assault Kit Initiative Program.   Funding of the program would be expanded from it’s current level in order to meet program requirements.   Justice for rape victims must not be denied due to budget issues in processing rape kits.
